Our Council Members

What is the University council?

The central representative body at the UM, the University Council, consists of 6 representatives from the academic staff section, 4 from the administrative and support staff and 10 from the student section.

Who are we?

Demi Janssen

Hi! I am Demi, a first-year UCM student. The past year, I have been on the board of KAN Party and I worked among others on organizing the Sustainability Week. I dream of a socially safe and inclusive university where sustainability and well-being are promoted and further embedded in the curriculum. I want to foster participation and transparency at UM by creating an environment where students feel empowered to share their opinions inside and outside of the councils and engage in extracurricular activities.

Marts Ivaskis

My name is Marts, and I’m a third year European law student! Alongside my studies, I work in the Ministry of Justice, providing advice and commentary in ECJ cases involving Latvia, and have co-founded student projects such as SOSMaastricht and the 56hourrule.nl! This year I’ve decided to put a focus on fostering innovation through more opportunities for student start-ups, inclusivity through a movement to make UM guideline and texts utilize gender-neutral pronouns, and through communicating with student associations to achieve better representation.

Our Projects

  • Whilst UM does not believe there will be housing problems in February, we remain cautious and continue to put UM's awareness to possible problems. This is done in cooperation with DOPE and USM.

  • The Executive Board assured to evaluate the current flight policy after one year. We have asked about the framework that will be used to evaluate and who will evaluate. The Executive Board will get back to us - and we'll keep you posted!

  • UM will invest half a million euros in sustainability annually from 2022 onwards. The funding is allocated through the theme "sustainability" in UM's budget.
